BACK BAY FISHING

The fish in the back bays is very good. Flounder are all over the place but the keeper ratio is very low, about 1 in 10 (remember 16"). The big fish are there but it's all a huntin' game. One lucky angler was aboard John Herron's charter boat the "Keeper" out of Margate, and boated a 6ponder on Friday.

There is an abundance of baby mackerel, about 4", in the bays behind Margate and Longport. These make excellent flounder bait. Squid minnows and spearing are also very good baits at this time.

Strippers are plentiful. Evening and early morning are your best times to hook up. Plugs are working well around rocks, sodbanks, or structures. Eels will always work on bridges. We suggest Longport, parkway Margate causeway and the OC toll bridge, which is now closed to traffic. Ed Arentz snagged a 34", 13.5pounder that was hanging around the Longport Bridge on 7/11.

Weakies are hard to find nowadays. Again, try early morning or evening. Shedder crab, if you can find it, is your best bet. We hear that Black Point, behind Brigantine is giving up some fish. WE have heard a few positive rumors about Lakes Bay.

Crabbing is also excellent this time of year.

OFFSHORE

Off shore has been quiet. Tuna are few and far between. We did see a couple of nice blue and yellow tail come into Farley State aboard the "Gabrielle". Sharks seem to have moved out but you may have caught the AC press article regarding Blue Shark of LBI.

For Bluefish you need to go real deep. The offshore water is still green and cold (below 70). Keep watching for the wind to kick out of the south to move some warm water up from Norfolk and Poormans Canyon. As soon as we here anything we'll let you know.
