Striper fishing in the back bays of Absecon continue to produce allot of nice fish. I headed out late Sunday afternoon to take advantage of a 4:00 pm high tide and beautiful weather. The water temperature was a consistent 58* and clean. Even on the weekend, the boat traffic is still at a minimum which also contributes to better fishing. I don't even bother fishing the weekends after Memorial day, there's just too much commotion on the water.
My method for spring Bass remains unchanged, live herring fished near a variety of sod banks throughout the bay. In my opinion, this is the most effective method for this time of year. I started in Steelman's with no luck then worked toward Broad Creek with no success. Meadow Cut has been producing so I took a ride over there next. Upon arrival I observed a couple of guys boat a nice Bass while anchored up fishing with clam. This got my adrenalin going knowing fish were here. It didn't take long, after a few lengthy drifts I boated this 34" beauty weighing in @ 15 lbs. I finished the day there without another strike and then headed home.
Remember to be patient when these Bass take live herring. I had missed a few nice fish last week simply because I didn't give them enough time to devour the bait. I had made a conscious effort to give this fish ample time to run before hooking up, the result is posted below:
